It's not just Norv Turner, it's AJ Smith. He's the one who hired Norv and he's the one who's keeping Norv around despite his horrible coaching. Spanos needs to fire both, but he won't because he's OK with complacency. The Spanos family just cares that the front office gets along with each other instead of the Chargers producing wins and championships. It needs to start with getting rid of Smith and then we could be on our way to a super bowl because we have a great roster.
Norv inherits 2006 14-2 roster and this is what he did with Super Bowl contender built by John Butler and Buddy Nix (NOT A.J. Smith):
2007 playoffs: 2-1
2008 playoffs: 1-1
2009 playoffs: 0-1
2010: Does not qualify for playoffs
2011: Losing record
Face it, Norv Turner is a born loser.
So tired of all the people blaming lack of talent as the reason for the Chargers failures of the last couple of years. Talent on all teams will rise and fall due to injuries, when the talent level drops quality coaching must fill that gap. A focused motivated team will often beat a more talented team.
Problem is Norv's teams play neither smart or physical. There are way too many mental errors and lack of toughness for this to be all about talent.
I agreed with the Turner hiring when it was made but I also said we must win in it all in the first couple of years because Norv has a history for turning teams into a dysfunctional soft group

Norv will likely be fired after this season, but does he deserve ALL the blame? Is it his fault that Rivers has been absolutely horrible this year? Did Norv throw those sixteen interceptions? Some things are beyond his control.

Oh yes, Norv is all to blame as he didn't do his part as coach. It's all about discipline. Norv didn't yelling on Rivers' mistakes. Half of those INT he made are mental mistake that can be avoid like tonight. What Norv did is saying few words then Rivers say few words and both walk away as nothing important to improve. To me, Rivers is loosing cannon without any discipline. It's time for AJ Smith to go then Norv's new job as offense coach. I think he's good as offense coach, but that's it.
Just watching Norv screw up the challenge/time out and completly waste any chance we had to stop the clock is proof of the fact that headcoaching is too big for NORV. He can't manage a game intelligently. And he definately can't handle his players either. He holds no one accountable. Is it really AJ drafting horrible? Or is it Norv not coaching up any players? Not a single player has actually improved under Norv. And the impression I am getting is that the players are now quitting on him. He was handed a talented team and methodically drove it into the ground.

This must stop, Fire Norv Turner and tell him to take AJ with him, Hand John Gruden an open check have him run the show with no interference. and lets get some of those missing rings on the fingers and the Lombardy's in the cases.
I have been a Charger fan since I started to be a football fan in 1993.
Now, I am rooting for any team against the Chargers this year so Norv and AJ get fired. This is unexplainable for several years now. If the Spanos want a profitable business, don't you wish your team will be reaching elite status each year? Records against elite teams show it. The Chargers can't beat them. They can't beat the Steelers, Patriots, Jets, Ravens, Packers, Bears, and you name it. Don't tell me that you have a winning season playing because you have been playing below average teams in your division.
This is sad. This even made me think am I getting robbed by the Spanos's? If they want an elite organization, then you have to make changes. There are plenty of good to great GMs out there. Pay them and move forward. You may get a new stadium with it too Spanos. I compare this bad situation with the Raiders. The Raiders had Al who was out of it and was taking risks. Al knows with risks there is great rewards or failures. With the Spanos's they rather remain in average status. Sad to see.

Skins fan here-I am still angry at Norv 11 years later. I laughed when someone said its not Norv's fault Rivers is having a bad year.. QB is supposed to be Norv's bread and butter. He's mister QB coach. How can Phillip be having a bad year under Norv?
Norv only drafted Heath Shuler in his first draft to rebuild the skins. He sure knows QB's. But hey, he coached Troy Aikman was what they told us.
Norv also has random good players that he decides aren't good enough for him. Right now, for you it seems to be Darren Sproles. From what I saw, Norv steadily minimized him in the gameplan over the last few years, and look what a real coach Sean Payton is doing with him!!! And Norv is an offensive genius!! He didn't know what else to do with Sproles and the Chargers just let him leave town!! He's the ultimate x factor on the Saints right now- Norv sucks!!
One guy here Norv didn't give a damn about was Trent Green. We drafted Green and developed him, he started and led us to wins after others were hurt and Norv let him go. He signed with Vermeil in STL and would've been QB of greatest show on turf but got hurt. Norv never liked him. We hadn't had a franchise QB in eight years at the time and Norv threw Green away like he was nothing. Norv sucks.
Feel sorry for you guys and wish you the best. By the time Norv left the Skins I hated him so bad I used to root for his brother to get his ass beat when he was coaching Illinois (Ron Turner-he sucks too) just out of principal!!
