Sure, the Chargers have injuries. Sure the Chargers might not have won this game BUT we were in place to win and TWO bad coaching calls might have blown it.
I ask Norv this. IF a player made two decisions this bad wouldnt YOU bench them? Of Course you would.

The Sproles run was a horrendous call but I think the right decision was made for the field goal.
Its way too simple to say "a FG on 3rd down...wtf?" But the fact of the matter is the Ravens sacked Rivers twice in the series and if they did it again the half is over. If a catch is made short of the endzone and the player isn't able to get out of bounds (like the Chiefs game) the half is over. A team needs roughly 12 seconds to get the FG unit out and snap the ball. Norv chose to take the guaranteed points against a (supposedly) tough defensive team.
Ten seconds is an eternity and you've got a smart quarterback. If nobody's open or there's pressure, just chuck it outta the end zone and kick the field goal. There's no need to risk a sack or interception. It was a horrible, gutless call by Norv. Playing not to lose instead of playing to win. We can't have that.
When the Baltimore Sun attributes part of the credit for the win to Turner, I have to go with the WTF comment.

Our 6'5" receivers have been dominating their CBs, and Norv doesn't throw a jump ball at least once at the end of the game? And at the half, even if Rivers takes a grounding penalty, it still would have been like a 30 yard field goal!
This is basic stuff that any casual fan can see. Norv just locks-up -- he is a nice guy, but is ruining my chances of seeing a championship come to San Diego after waiting for 3 decades.

I agree. Let's all agree. Norm seems like a nice enough guy. I would love for him to be there when we win a championship. But unfortunately we will never win a championship with him here. AJ realizes it too by now but he is too stubborn and egotistical to admit it after firing Marty.
those were two horrendous calls alright. Norv's conservative offensive mentality cripples his teams. the only reason he won as the oc with the cowboys was the head coach and incredible talent on that team, the chargers talent isn't too far behind but he cannot motivate his players and continually makes questionable decisions. worst head coach in the NFL and maybe of all time, second worse right now id say is dick jauron.
besides cam cameron that guy was a horrible head coach for miami. norv is better than him but so is every other coach.
Norv turne is not a leader. He has continuously proven that throughout his coaching career and people keep giving him the chance. We are the latest idiots to let him coach. I will be thrilled when his tenure is up. his teams are always underprepared, uninspired, penalty prone, and mentally weak. And it shows with us. The raiders were better prepared then we were. We were lucky to come up with a win against them. As we play better teams, we can expect more losses. Unless Norv is let go. Keep your fingers crossed.

During the first pass play by the steelers on the 10/4/2009 game in Pittsburg, Rothesberger threw a long pass to a receiver, who caught the ball, but was pushed out by the Charger defender. Only one foot in play.
The new rule says, if you do not put both feet down then no catch.
