Im not saying that the Chargers lost because:
- the broncos home video replay was somehow 'inoperable' on a call that would obviously be overturned in favor of the chargers for a crucial turnover. or
- Ed 'check out my guns' Hochuli blows what was obviously a fumble recovered by the Chargers as dead. or
- the broncos were obviously coached to 'chop block' as seen by the double team chop block earlier in the game. (those dont just happen). or
- every possible penalty that could be called against Cromartie was called
Darren Sproles was fantastic and LT was hurt again. Everyone thought he could be more durable than the 8 year curse for RB's but it doesn't look like it. Enjoy LT this year because if this keeps up he will be retiring after this year.
The game was stolen from the Chargers. There has to be an investigation into the game clock errors and the video replay but it was only open to be stolen because, quite frankly, if you cant stop a 2 point conversion in the NFL you probably shouldnt be winning close games.
But then again, the Chargers did win that game if it wasnt for that call, which isnt in dispute, Hochuli admitted the mistake during the game.

Hey all Chagers fans:
We DID NOT LOSE. We had the referees screw us big time. They gave Denver two touchdowns.
We got cheated - simple as that.
It was all Denver according to the broadcasters, but you just can't always win by beating the team AND the refs. TThe refs being F**kheads.
Darren Sproles - over 200 yards and Rivers over 300 yards. Scew you officials.
We DID NOT lose this game, we got screwed.
Not just being a Chargers fan, just stating the facts.
So sick of Denver being favored in all of the calls.
Go Chargers - you came back and kicked ass; the refs just must have had some bets on Denver.
GO BOLTS GO BOLTS GO BOLTS
should start a petition to give the chargers the game as it was theirs and all because of admitted mistakes by the referee's should have been theirs. Norv turner better be starting riots with the NFL that was a disgrace a horrible horrible disgrace
Chargers need to make a big deal out the refereeing mistakes within this game. AS in, it makes the press nationally.
The NFL should be involved this time and an official complaint should be filed ny the Chargersand recognized. When you have the refs making huge mistakes as they did today and even admitting them, there is no justice to the Chargers supposed loss today - BECAUSE THERE WASN'T ONE. The refs screwed up big time and that should not be allowed to happen. Often, the refs make mistakes, but NOT at this level.
The NFL should come out and make a statement or make some changes after this game. Now, we are stuck with an 0-2 very undeserved record.
Waht a crop of crap. This is one of the most unfair calling of a NFL game that I have ever seen.
The REFS SUCK ASS. And the Chargers have to pay the price - again.
The officiating of this game
Denver vs. San Diego on September 14. 2008 sets a new LOW in the NFL.
What a complete inexplainable mess
and so NOT fair to the Chargers and their fans. actually this officiating should be condemed to all and not count when it affects a division rival and the team's record.
The NFL should investigate the officiating of this game ASAP and publish the results to the entire nation.
Ha, you bunch of whiny little bitches. You all told us to get over it when the Tuck screwed us Raiders fans, and now here you are. Winless, and trying to start a pathetic little petition to soothe you fragile egos. You should petition Norv Turner to teach his team how to play defense. Hey, D-Mac kinda looked like LT used to today, didn't he?
If Norv Turner wasn't a complete piece of crap, the game wouldn't have been close to begin with. On the bright side, for each game the Chargers lose, the closer to Norv Turner's firing we get. Something to look forward to at least.
Ha! the raiders finally get a win and they come on here to call us whinny little bitches. Typical Raider fan. Very similiar to the guy who owns a $1500 accord and throws wanna be rims on it and thinks hes a pimp but he lives with his mom, works part time at a car stereo store and has a 2 year old that he should be spending what he does have on.
dude, i totally just described every raider fan. boy im good.
wah. u puzis willing to give bak any bad calls that went yer way? stfu. what a crying bunch of losers. Stop just ONE of marshalls 18 catches and u win. U lost the game. get over it u beetches.
HOW ABOUT THE CLIP ON THE RETURN FOR TOUCHDOWN? GONNA GIVE IT BAK? YER MINI REIGHN IS OVER SO STFU. U WILL ALWAYS HAVE THE SUPERBOWLS U WON. (WHAT? NOOOOOOOOOO).
Raiders Fans:
FOAD, now!
Ed Hochuli TRULY sucks.
With all of the talk about putting an * after certain statistics in MLB, then certainly the games that are won or lost by the officiating should also be annotated with an * beside them, such as yesterday's gift from the refs to Denver.
Yes, defense needs to improve, but the Bolts had 2 touchdowns given to Denver from the officiating crew and that my friends is a crock of crap anyway you look at it. Chargers had 21 unanswered points in the second half, so it mush have been time to GIVE Denver another gift at the end of the game.
Whiny little bitches NOT!
Raider Paraders:
No Ebonics on this site.
Go back to Hell-A or to Oakland and stay out of San Diego.
Chargers lost thier first game due to defense (lack of it) but yesterday's game makes the zebras look like stupid assholes or in the case of the Raiders on this site - them.
Seriously, did the refs have money down in Vegas on Denver?
This puts the Chargers record at 0-2 and especially with another team in the AFC West, that is WRONG
Even Cutler in his post game interview acknowledged that it was a Denver fumble.
We don't want a freebee here; we want fairness.
Why play the game if it was already decided by the zebras before it was played?
Holy crap what is going on here? Does big Ed just have it out for the Chargers? I didnt think it could get any worse with the "equipment malfunction" but it got a lot worse. BTW why didnt they just watch friggin CBS like everyone else and see that Chambers was down? The Chargers are limping into this season big time, not good.
They better make a big statement this Monday night.
I just came across this, thought it was more funny that a pissed off Charger fan is starting a petition. Where have I seen this before?
http://bayareashows.today.com/2008/09/15/petition-in-protest-of-nfl-referee-conduct-ed-hochuli-chargers-broncos-september-14-2008/
Ed WAS a good referee! In this era of super technology, the replay was down- say what?!
Forget Norv- he was screaming his head off. Ted Cottrell is the WORST defensive coordinator (he must have pictures of AJ doing something) and needs to be CANNED and NOW! He has amazing talent and plays it conservative every single time. How many blitzes did we have? How many sacks? I saw this last year and now this year- Ted's redzone defensive schemes are HORRIBLE! That's why we have 2 losses...
Tim Sullivan had it right, we all need to drink- heavily (hand me a cold one).
Then we should have an "us against the world" mentality, because we have nothing to lose if we just let it loose and have fun...
officials didn't cause the loss - how about 468 yards in Denever offense - time to "shed Ted"!!!
btw if I have to see the headline "Chargers get shocked with game ender" again the streets of Garnet are going to run red with the blood of a pats fan. Why a pats fan you ask? Well because as soon as I step out my door I know I will see 100 jack asses with "B" hats on because the have infiltrated this quaint beach town like friggin vermin.
How can anyone who saw the game not think that the refs screwed up big time?
Hey, use the Jumbo-tron for the replay where they show plays over and over.
I think the Chargers should have the NFL give an eplanation/ statement regarding the blown whistle exploit and the "lack of working equipment" exercise.
There should be back-up plans in place for these occurances and common sense should dictate that the Jumbo tron or whatever resources are available are used for the next time there is an equipment failure.
To the blogger who said Denver was allowed so many yards in offense - agreed, BUT the Chargers ALSO had 457 yards in offense - similar numbers, so it is not like the officials giving the Broncos 2 extra touchdowns did not make a difference.
Also agreed that the Chargers need to make corrections on defense, however, this loss goes to the refs this time! Give any decent team two touchdowns and see what happens - when the Chargers score reflected only a one point difference.
I see now Denver’s 12th man is Ed Hochuli, who should either be put on the Bronco's payroll (if he's not already on it) OR be fired from officiating games in the future.
San Diego should never have to have this guy officiating at any of their games going forward.
That game sucked!
Except in Denver's opinion.
..and the latest Ed Hochulame fallout. Btw, catch Shanahans comments in the article, basically saying that it was one of the best refereed games he had ever been to. Wow, I almost respect the guy for the balls.
Hochuli to be graded down
Sep 15, 7:25 pm EDT
Buzz Up PrintNEW YORK (AP)—Ed Hochuli’s acknowledgement that he erred on a call late in Sunday’s San Diego-Denver game will mean lower grades for one of the NFL’s highest profile referees.
“Officials are held accountable for their calls. They are graded on every play of every game,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Monday. “Ed has been an outstanding official for many years, but he will be marked down for this call. Under our evaluation system, an official’s grades impact his status for potentially working the playoffs and ultimately whether or not he is retained.”
The play occurred with the Broncos at the Chargers 1-yard-line in the final minute. Denver quarterback Jay Cutler dropped back to pass, the ball slipped out of his hands, bounced off the grass and into the arms of San Diego linebacker Tim Dobbins.
Hochuli ruled it an incomplete pass. Replay ruled it a fumble, but it was spotted at the 10-yard line, where the ball hit the ground, and given to Denver because the rules did not permit possession to be awarded to San Diego because the whistle had blown.
Denver went on to score, convert a 2-point conversion and win 39-38.
The play also is likely to be reviewed in the offseason by the league’s competition committee, which normally reviews all controversial plays.
“It’s going to require a great deal of discussion,” said Titans coach Jeff Fisher, the cochairman of the competition committee. “It’s happened at times. It happened in a game against us at Indianapolis years ago. … When the whistle blows and the pass is ruled incomplete, there’s just no way currently that you can award possession.”
For example, until March 2007, down by contact plays were not reviewable. That rule was changed so that they were reviewable, and if a fumble occurred even after the whistle blew, the team recovering it got possession
San Diego coach Norv Turner said he spoke with NFL officials Monday and that the Chargers sent in video of the plays in question.
“As for things that occurred during the game, in my mind, they’re done,” Turner said. “We sent the plays in to the league that we had in question. We expect to get a response back. Anything that we talk about or anything that is discussed in terms of any of the rules or any of the calls isn’t going to change the outcome of that game. That game is going to be 39-38, forever.”
Denver coach Mike Shanahan said honest mistakes always happen in the NFL.
“This was the best crew that we have had in the last 20 crews I have graded,” Shanahan said. “They did a heck of a job. Every game that you see that is within a point or a field goal over the last couple years, it may be a call or a non-call that wasn’t right, but that is the nature of this game. You have to find a way to win.
“We still had the ball at third-and-10 and had to get it into the end zone. Third-and-10 and then fourth-and-4. We still had to make a 2-point conversion,” Shanahan said. “It wasn’t like somebody gave us the touchdown. You have to go out there and still get it done.”
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wasn’t surprised that Hochuli was involved.
“That particular official gets a lot of criticism. He’s a highly criticized official in the NFL,” Jones said.
“Nothing can be done. I understand that after that whistle blows, you can’t speculate, `Well, did everybody get the best shot at recovering the ball if some of them heard the whistle and some of them didn’t?’ “
Yeah, Shanahan said that the Chargers should have blocked that 2 conversion. I wonder what is opinion would be if he was on the other side and took a loss due to bad calls.
